Vivian Wilkes Award

Background

The Vivian Wilkes Award for children’s book illustrations rewards the illustrator of "an outstanding illustrated South African children’s book". The book may be fact or fiction, and the text in any South African language. Although this likely to be a full-colour picture book, this need not be the case. Books produced as part of a reading scheme or literacy programme are eligible, provided that the book had a South African edition published in the particular year of the prize, and that the illustrator is normally resident within South Africa. The prize is R3000 and the illustrator and publisher both receive a certificate and citation. The award is made by the South African Children’s Book Forum
