Annette van Zyl/Busse grew up and went to school in Cape Town, South Africa. She studied Graphic Design at Stellenbosch University, followed by a post graduate degree in illustration under Paddy Bouma which she completed in 1994, cum laude. Since then she has worked full-time in a freelance capacity in the publishing industry, and has illustrated numerous books for both children and adult readers.

Her favourite media are pen, watercolour and inks, and favourite subjects are those that are humorous and informative with a gentle twist.

She lives in Cape Town in sight of Table Mountain and enjoys working from home with her family nearby.
