I am a Cape Town based illustrator who started out working in design for the clothing industry, having done a three year diploma in Graphic Design at the then Cape Technikon (1986-1988). About 14 years ago I found myself freelancing in my extra time as an illustrator of educational books for children for Maskew Miller Longman. In 1994 I chose to focus exclusively on publishing and have over the years illustrated for many of the local publishers in addition to ones in Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique. The bulk of my work involves Learner’s books, covers, posters and readers, the latter being the highlight of my job. Illustrating readers is what feeds my creativity and I am always striving to try my hand at different techniques in order to maintain my enthusiasm, and hopefully to inspire the child paging through the book. My strength is definitely in my use of colour, whether I am using watercolours, gouache or mixed media.
