The Children’s Literature Research Unit (CLRU) of the University of South Africa coordinates this cultural exchange project that involves schools in South Africa and countries abroad. | |||
| Global Twins is a cultural exchange project that involves the twinning of South African schools with schools in other countries that are involved in the project. There are two variations:
The schools work towards creating and developing artwork, written material and additional material that depict the identity of the particular schools and its learners and its locality within a particular city and country - or about a particular World Heritage Site. In addition to the above-mentioned topics, participating schools are also expected to deal with their countries, schools and families. Additional topics are agreed upon by the participating schools (in consultation with the Children's Literature Research Unit). The learners also correspond with learners of the twinning school. The material is exchanged and exhibited. Ideally this is a joint exhibition of the created work of both schools that travel between the countries. The CLRU is responsible for the transport of the material to and from South Africa, usually in collaboration with the South African missions. The aim of this project is to foster an awareness amongst children globally to be proud of their heritage and to respect and learn about their cultures and lifestyles and those of their global twins. This will hopefully broaden the minds of our children and introduce children of the world to South Africa, our people and culture. If your school is interested in twinning with a school in South Africa or abroad, contact the CLRU on: vdwaltb@unisa.ac.za This website is developed by Unisa Press as a community participation project.
