The Children’s Literature Research Unit (CLRU) was invited by the Chinese Publishers Development Foundation to exhibit at the Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) from 1 to 6 February 2001. The CLRU was given a complimentary stand at this exhibition by the organisers and with the generous sponsorship from Old Mutual plc, the exhibiting of South African children’s books was made possible.

The TIBE is the largest book fair in Asia, and the fourth largest fair in the world, and South African children’s books, received attention on a global platform. More or less 150 South African children's books of the following publishers were exhibited: Anansi; ELRU; Human & Rousseau; Juta; Kagiso Education; LAPA; Maskew Miller Longman; READ; Tafelberg and Van Schaik. Visitors to the exhibition were impressed with the high quality of South African books, and the CLRU has been invited by the organisers to exhibit at TIBE 2002.
